The best thing about windsurfing in Berkeley is that you can rig anything you want! You’d think I’d have been underpowered on the 11th with the 5.1, but that Hansen sail has a great bottom end! It takes me upwind even on the wavy FSW board.
How powered you feel depends a lot on how windy it is all the way across the sailing basin. It’s almost a mile across–the perfect distance for long reaches! The anemometer is at one end, on the point, a good 30 feet in the air.
This is an historic day. For the first time, on the FSW 94, my fin was TOO BIG! This pleases me greatly. The Hansen sail is SO FAST it makes the difference.

Big Waves in Coronado but no Windsurfing

I took this photo on a December evening from the room where I stay at my parents’ place. It was calm that day with big waves.
This visit there were little waves and good wind most every day, September 2 through 9, but I didn’t have any equipment. Mom complained about the wind!

My new fat windsurfing board, the Goya, really spins with the MFC 25! I do find riding that little fin to be tiring. It requires a different stance and so far I’ve adjusted mainly by standing forward of the straps. I rarely get my back foot in.

Windsurfing Tip: Check your Equipment before you Go
September 25th, 2008 · No Comments
I didn’t get to windsurf at Point Isabel because I drove off to the beach with a “new” (used) harness and it was missing half a buckle. Can’t sail with that! Should have checked it before I left the house. Good thing I didn’t drive to Third or the Delta!

I zoomed over to Berkeley and got another harness and zoomed back, but by then the wind had backed off too much for my little 85 liter rrd. Wah!
I tossed everything into the car and speeded back to Berkeley. I got off a late session with Mr Late Session himself, none other than heartthrob Anton!

Windsurfing Tip: Always Go!

A week of funky schizophrenic windsurfing wind. It’s hot and you had to be there to get any, which underscores my number one rule for windsurfing: ALWAYS GO!
