Windsurfing on the Goya, a true trick board, requires a different stance. Hips forward instead of back! This is a little disconcerting, but it works well. I havn’t been tossed over the bars yet!

Serendipity! Monday the wind came up and there were nice big swells to ride. I came in to change my fin from the MFC 25 freestyle to a longer one I could turn on and use to ride the waves (Wahoo!). The wind suddenly quit while I was on shore. Whew! There were many swimmers.

I’m resorting to the Flipper 13.5 because it’s easier! It’s a little fin, so the board still spins. Great progress on Wednesday and even more on Thursday.

Wednesday I figured out what I was doing wrong on the port tack upwind 360, and Thursday, after two failures, I remembered and I did it!

Berkeley Contingent Goes to San Carlos for Wave Sailing
September 25th, 2008 · No Comments
Heidi, Raul, and Meredith are driving to San Carlos Baja Norte to wave sail. It takes a lot of prep because there is nothing there, not even fresh water, just an informal camp ground on the point. Hope they have fun!

Windsurfing Berkeley Great Wind late Season September 17 to 21
September 25th, 2008 · No Comments
Windsurfing Wednesday was a little difficult. There was plenty of wind for planing on the 6.2, but the MFC 25 (it’s not a 28) was a bit of a challenge. It was my first time rigging the 6.2 on my new RDM and I didn’t use enough downhaul, so the sail was a handful. Since I seem to think I should get everything right the first time, I was irritated at having to come in and make changes. Now, really, that makes no sense. Most windsurfers spend a lot of time adjusting their kits whenever they add a new piece of equipment.
September 18 through 20 were three days of really good wind.

Effortless Windsurfing: Small but Good for Fin and Sail
September 25th, 2008 · No Comments
Windsurfing with too big a fin is rough! With the right fin it’s smooth and effortless.

When I hit the windline Tuesday with the 4.6, I thought, Wow! I’ve rigged right. The big wind didn’t last, but I was able to plane most of the time. With the 4.6 on the 94, I was the tacking queen!

Windsurfers Beware: iWindsurf Moderates the Lulls
September 25th, 2008 · No Comments
Isabella always says that iWindsurf over reports the lulls, that a lull of 12, say, is really more like 9. Here is proof! The detail graph shows the major lull that made me think It’s Over! I could have—should have—stayed out a little longer.
