I won’t sail in a north wind. Been there, done that, don’t need to do it again.
Not much wind anywhere Saturday or Sunday.

Windsurfing Berkeley Late Season October 8 and 9
October 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Wednesday, my first day back from Southern California and I had to spend the early afternoon at the dentist. Wah! As I was launching, all my windsurfing buddies were landing. I tricked until it got too light even for twirling the sail.
Thursday I didn’t expect the wind to get so good! I rigged the Hansen B-Wave 5.1, which is difficult to trick because it doesn’t luff. I was kind of unhappy, because I could have been having more fun on the 6.2 Bash and 94 FSW. Who knew?

Stand Up Paddling is Big in Southern California
October 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Lots of stand-up paddling in Southern California. I took this photo from the breakfast table at Mom’s on a day when the waves were small. There wasn’t much wind this visit to the Southland, so I didn’t go crazy.

Windsurfing Success in the Transition Surprises
October 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Sometimes when you do a windsurfing move just right, you’re so surprised to be in that perfect place, you jump off the board and into the water!
I’m working on tacking faster—getting to the other side of the board while I’m still on a plane. Saturday, twice, I got onto the lee side, on a plane, I was on the board, holding the booms, the sail was in the right place. Everything was good, and I just jumped off. This happened twice!
Sunday’s graph looks good, but I had no success with any of my moves. The wind was skitzy and I was a little underpowered. Last time I rode the 4.6 Bash on the 94 liter FSW I was underpowered and able to do all kinds of things, so I had high hopes going out.
Much better success windsurfing on Monday.
Tuesday was windsurfing trick day—lots of light air moves. I had orchestra rehearsal, so I couldn’t stay late and catch the real wind after 5pm.

Stealth Windsurfer is King of the Planing 360s
September 26th, 2008 · No Comments
The stealth windsurfer pictured here is king of the planing 360s. (I can’t catch him on the water, but I caught him on his bike!)

Today I managed two planing 360s! That makes an all time total of six for me. (I’m so behind!)
