Three Days of Similar Wind Happy on Different Windsurfing Equipment

June 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Windsurfing Berkeley June 12 2008These three days are interesting in that they show very similar wind being sailed comfortably on different windsurfing equipment. Thursday average 24mph on rrd 94 Free Style Wave and Windwing Bash 5.1 being perfect; Friday average 25mph on rrd 85 Free Style Wave and Bash 4.6 being OK but needing gusts of 27mph for true happiness; Saturday average 23mph on the rrd 94 and Bash 5.6 being perfect and gusts of 27 not a problem.
Windsurfing Berkeley June 13 2008I am surprised at how far back I wanted my harness lines on Thursday and Friday. It took me a few runs each of these three days to get everything adjusted right. Both Friday and Saturday, I dropped into the water to lower my booms half and inch so that I could drop the sail to the aft lee quarter and motor upwind with the leeward rail down. Lowering the booms meant that my lines needed to be adjusted again. On Friday, I covered half the key hole with the universal, so the mast was back a good half inch on the 85. On Saturday, I put the universal orward 1/2 inch, so the booms at 49″ were effectively lower on the 94, given that the tracks on the two boards are in the same place in relationship to the foot straps, something I need to check.
Windsurfing Berkeley June 14 2008Friday Isabella was rigged with more power than I was, on her 4.7 and rrd 90, an unusual occurrence, and she was happy happy happy. Saturday Isabella and I were rigged the same, rrd 90 for her 94 for me, and Bash 5.6. We were both happy. I sailed above the point and she stayed below.
