Windsurfing Berkeley mid Season 2008 late May: Relax and Put your Hips into It

May 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Windgraph Berkeley May 25 2008Sunday I taught another clinic at the club on using the harness and footstraps and waterstarting. This time I taught people how to change the footstrap size and position, because the footstraps that I changed for the beginners Wednesday were changed back by the slalom sailors post haste! The beginners never got to sail with the footstraps in beginner position.
Windgraph Berkeley May 26 2008Looked like rain again until mid afternoon. Went for a trick session, but tricks were not so easy on the smaller board. (The Whale died!) I want to change my equipment set up so I have a livelier board and can use a smaller sail. (Smaller sail with a bigger board is easier to trick.)
I’ve been trying to heli a la Jason Voss’s instructions, checking the sail clew first before the final flip into sailing position. I can do it easily in a heli to starboard, but seldom with a heli to port. So after a dozen heli’s I thought about it and did one perfectly in a heli to port.
I missed every attempt at a sail and body 360 and upwind 360. These I was making with ease a few weeks ago on the Whale.
I started missing the heli’s when the wind came up. This used to be my more reliable time, when I had more power, on any board. What helped was to sail along backwinded and relax! Put your hips into it!
